Cheese Lasagna:

Lasagna is a classic Italian pasta dish that's usually made with layers of pasta, cheese, and a flavorful sauce. Here's a basic recipe for making a delicious cheese lasagna:

Ingredients:

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage (optional)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions and drained
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  • If using ground beef or sausage, add it to the skillet and cook until browned. Break it up into small pieces with a spoon.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust the seasoning if needed.

Prepare the Cheese Filling:

  • In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Assemble the Lasagna:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the prepared sauce on the bottom.
  • Place 3 cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Spread half of the cheese filling evenly over the noodles.
  • Sprinkle about 1/3 of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the cheese filling.
  • Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, cheese filling, mozzarella cheese.
  • Finish with a layer of sauce and the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

Bake the Lasagna:

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring it doesn't touch the cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Let it Rest:

  • Once baked, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps the layers set and makes it easier to cut.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Slice the cheese lasagna into portions and serve with your favorite side salad or garlic bread.

Feel free to customize the recipe by adding sautéed vegetables, using different types of cheeses, or adjusting the seasoning according to your taste. Enjoy your homemade cheesy lasagna!
